AAA's annual fund drive for charitable groups is held as part of its co-sponsorship of a float in the world-famous Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1st. truck dealers This year's AAA float, ``Vacation Time,'' pays tribute to the great American pastime of family vacations.
``We ask local residents to join AAA in supporting this vital effort to assist disaster victims and their families,'' said George Clarke, general manager of AAA Texas.
Donations will be accepted at each of AAA's 21 offices. Anyone making a donation of $1 or more can sign a sponsor card that will be placed inside AAA's float for its January 1st parade appearance.
The parade float, co-sponsored with AAA organizations in Southern California, New Mexico and Hawaii, is a celebration of popular family vacation destinations. truck dealers The shores of Hawaii, the slopes of Yosemite, the deserts of Mexico, the coast of California and the hot-air balloon-filled skies of New Mexico are some of the getaways depicted on the 55-foot-long float that stretches 20 feet in the air.
In addition to supporting the Red Cross, AAA members who will be in Southern California over the Christmas-New Year's holiday can participate in the Tournament of Roses experience by volunteering to decorate the ``Vacation Time'' float.
More than 1,800 volunteers will be required for the massive effort to attach thousands of seeds, petals, leaves, bark and other organic decorations to the float. truck dealers Members can sign up for float decorating shifts, which will begin in December, by calling 714/885-1133 between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. weekdays. All float decorators will receive a special memento thanking them for their participation.
The Tournament of Roses community program is just one of the many community outreach efforts conducted by AAA throughout the year. This year's efforts included an employee campaign to benefit United Way, employee blood drives, a $10,000 donation to the Red Cross and a $10,000 donation to the fund benefiting families of victims killed in the Sept. truck dealers 11 tragedies.
